We welcomed Lydia, a year 10 student from a local secondary school, who did her two weeks work experience with us at the start of September. During her time with us, Lydia helped out on a variety of tasks including social media planning, CRM updating, accompanied John and our photographer on a photoshoot and designed a small website to showcase her photography.
My name is Lydia and I am 15 years old. I go to Thornden secondary school where I study commercial art (the digital side to art and photography), history and drama. I chose to pick commercial art to help learn more about the Photoshop programme, where I would be able to design websites, advertising and photography.
What have you learnt during your two weeks work experience at Innovate Creative?
I’ve always wanted to go into the marketing business. but never known specifically what part I wanted to go into. After spending two weeks at Innovate Creative it has really given me a good insight to what it’s all about.
What have you been up to during your two weeks?
During my two weeks of work experience I have learnt so much. In my first week I tried out many different parts of graphic design, for advertising I was given a challenge to find six Chandler’s Ford businesses and to advertise their news through an online emailer called ‘Chandlers Ford Business News’ that Innovate Creative send out monthly.
As I love to take pictures, I got the chance to design and create my own small website to show all my photography; this really helped to develop my skills in Photoshop and I also created my own business card in InDesign. I even got the chance to go out for the day to a customer’s premises as Innovate Creative were project managing a photo shoot there – it was great to see how the photographer worked and meet some clients who have all of their marketing managed by Innovate.
Why did you choose to do work experience here?
I’ve always loved art, not only the drawing side but the digital side as well. Since I was younger I have always wanted to get into the marketing business. I felt like Innovate Creative was the perfect place as it allowed me to challenge myself and try all different things.
I really enjoyed it and it has taught me so much!
What has been your favourite thing working at the Innovate Creative studio?
I have enjoyed my whole experience here with Innovate Creative. The main things I have enjoyed is learning how to make a website and get it up and running to be put on the internet. I also enjoyed going to meet some customers as I felt it really gave me an insight to what it’s like to manage a companies marketing – website, photography, designed leaflets and their adverts.
Do you think the design and digital marketing life is one you would like to pursue when you leave school/college?
Yes, I really enjoyed the digital marketing side of the business and would love to work in the marketing sector when I’m older.
